Every performance task in this course is rehearsed in class, and that is deliberate: the working periods are where I watch you make the thing and where we talk about it, and two of the three kinds of evidence behind your mark exist nowhere else. Every task here is performed with other people, and every one of them is marked individually — each page names the part of it that is yours.
The seven tasks
- Tableau Story Sequence — your group tells a complete story in five frozen pictures.
- Improvisation Showcase — you and a partner build a scene from nothing but three slips of paper.
- Scene Study from a Story — a fairy tale, myth, or legend becomes a scripted scene shaped by one convention.
- Drama in the World — a form or tradition, researched properly, taught to us by putting us on our feet in it.
- Production Roles Interview — you become a theatre professional and take questions in role.
- Culminating Performance — everything the course built, on stage for a real audience.
- Milestone Journal Entries — four times this semester, in class, you look back at what you just made and say what it taught you.
Underneath all of them, your Drama Journal runs all course long — it lives in Portfolios, because that is where your growth gets recorded rather than performed. Most of it is practice and is not marked; the four entries that are marked have their own page above.
